Warden Message: Afghanistan Election Results

U.S. Embassy Kabul released the following Warden Message on October 16:
Presidential election recount results may be announced as early as Saturday October 17, 2009. In the event election results are announced on Saturday, travel by U.S. Embassy personnel may be restricted beginning October 17th depending upon the situation throughout the city of Kabul. Additional police and military resources are being deployed throughout the city in the event of disorder. Currently, there are no plans to close roads, intersections, or other ingress/egress points near the Embassy. The U.S. Embassy urges Americans to exercise additional caution if traveling in an area where civil unrest is active.
We remind American citizens of the continuing threats outlined in the current Travel Warning for Afghanistan and Worldwide Caution. The full text of each can be found at http://travel.state.gov. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays). Americans are also encouraged to read the Country Specific Information for Afghanistan, available on the Embassy’s website at http://kabul.usembassy.gov, and also at http://travel.state.gov.
The U.S. Embassy is located at Great Masood Road between Radio Afghanistan and the Ministry of Public Health (the road is also known as Bebe Mahro or Airport Road) in Kabul. Americans who find themselves in cases of extreme emergency in Afghanistan may contact the Embassy operator via 0700-10-8000 or the Consular Section via mobile at 0700-20-1908. The American Citizens Service section is open for non-emergency services from 8am to 4:30pm, Sunday to Thursday, excluding holidays.
